I’ve loved the music of the Grateful Dead since I was a teenager in the '70s. People like me are lovingly referred to as “Deadheads". We are deeply attached to the music and connected to a community through the music. The original band played their last show over 25 years ago, a month before the death of lead guitarist and vocalist Jerry Garcia.

All these years later, the music lives on and continues to grow through the proliferation of cover bands that range from local bar bands, in communities around the country, to touring acts available year round. Original members of the band, both together and separately, continue to play this music in a variety of lineups and with an array of contemporary talents. At the heart of this scene has always been the live music experience . This tradition and a love for the music has been passed on through the "hippies" of the '60s and '70s to their children and beyond. The community has not only survived, it has thrived. Older Deadheads now mix with newer generations of fans, many of whom are too young to have ever seen the original band.

The photos shown here are my attempt to share part of our collective story.
